Level 1 Music

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Lynn Jamieson.

Each student will be offered the opportunity to gain up to 15 credits in Level 1 Music.

 Music is a fundamental form of expression, both personal and cultural.

Standards include opportunities for developing skills in :

    - Performance (solo or group - can include Kapahaka, Pasifika, Rockquest, Barbershop, Chamber music, Guitar ensembles, Jazz Band)

    - Composition (collaboratively or by yourself)

    - Aural (listening)

     - Music Technology (Soundtrap, Falt.io)

    - Music Literacy (Theory)

    - Analysis

Please note Performance is not compulsory and can be 

    1) in front of friends or whānau

    2) at a festival such as Rockquest

    3) incorporate elements of te ao Māori and be performed on a marae, a hui, whakataetae, wānaga etc. 

The possibilities are endless.

Students may select up to 15 credits from the options provided.

Entry to the course is at the discretion of the TIC Music.

Pre-requisites

Performance experience on an instrument of your choice (voice is an instrument) at a level consistent with two years prior study is beneficial.

 Students completing the performance standards must have lessons in the Itinerant scheme or a pre-approved private Music teacher for the duration of this course. 

It is beneficial to have completed Grade 1 Theory and/or the Year 10 option course. 

All students are encouraged to contribute to a school music ensemble.

Credit Information

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
