Level 1 Health
Course Description

Each student will be offered the opportunity to gain up to 15 credits in Level 1 Health Studies across both internal and external achievement standards.
This course involves a study of personal well-being through exploring holistic models of health. Students will develop an understanding of current issues related to nutrition, mental health and relationships and learn how a range of factors influence hauora.
Students will review effective communication, relationship and decision making skills along with considering Māori and Pacific knowledge bases, values, and practices related to hauora and wellbeing.
This course encourages students to develop an understanding that a variety of health-promotion actions are needed at personal, interpersonal, and societal levels to enhance hauora. Through Health Studies students will explore diverse ways to manage change situations that have an impact on wellbeing.

Pathway
Potential career pathways from Health include: teaching, sport psychology, sports massage, physiotherapy, nursing, occupational therapy, social work, health science research, nutritionist or health promotion.
